There is a new web resource which was created to help historic building owners understand not only the techniques to preserve or restore a building, but also how historic buildings work, why preservation is important, and tips on how to finance and plan a historic rehabilitation project in the most efficient and cost-effective way.
Go to wisconsinhistory.org/preserve-your-building and you’ll find an image of a house divided into sections. By clicking on an area where you have questions, you will find 145 concise yet thorough articles on topics ranging from window repair to how to talk with a contractor. These articles are designed with a rating system to help you determine whether a project is a simple DIY repair or when it is time to call a contractor.
This Guide to historic building preservation is supported in part by a Preserve America grant administered by the National Park Service, Department of the Interior. The Society thanks the generous donors who supported this matching grant.
